Newsletters

When considering improving a church newsletter, think of three factors -- content, writing and design.  All three are important. Well-written items in a well-designed newsletter don't mean much if the content itself is not interesting (to the reader). Even the best design won't hold readers' interest for long is the material is poorly written or just plain boring. And a poor design can lessen the number of people who read the newsletter, even if the material is well-written and pertinent. Here are some tips to get you started in improving your church newsletter:

The United Methodist News Service (UMNS) provides several helps for newsletters and Web sites.  One such service is newsletter "template" that your church could use. If nothing else, the templates let you try out new designs as you discuss improving your church's newsletter. The templates are called "News In Pews". Both a 4-page and an 8-page Word template are downloadable.
