Stewardship

What is a steward?  What is stewardship?  One definition is an all-inclusive one...

"Stewardship is everything you do after you say yes to Jesus Christ."
  — Clarence Stoughton

The word we use for "steward" comes from a Greek word for manager or overseer, often of the property or household of another. We are God's managers (stewards) for all that He has given us -- everything.

Why is Christian stewardship important?  Because developing and using the gifts God has given us to follow His will gives meaning to our lives.

Select a link in the menu at left to learn more about the many areas of Christian Stewardship. Reflect on how you could improve your personal stewardship of these areas.

"Stewardship is about making choices, as individuals and in community. It is more than giving money to the church. Stewardship is about being faithful disciples, caring for and managing all that God has given us.

Stewardship is not just one part of Christian discipleship; it involves every aspect of life in all the stages of life." (Presbyterian Church, USA)

"Think of us in this way, as servants of Christ and stewards of God's mysteries.  Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy." (1 Corinthians 4:1-2, NRSV)
