Stewardship

Relationships

OK, so stewardship can be about more than just money, money, money.  But are you working on stewardship in your own home?

We need to be good stewards of our relationships too -- relationships with loved ones, extended family, neighbors, coworkers, fellow church members, and yes, even strangers.

"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. — Ephesians 4:2-3  [NIV]

Do you show appreciation for others?  Do you consider the impact of your actions on other people before you act?  How do you handle situations where you have offended someone or hurt their feelings?  Do you put as much effort into building and maintaining healthy relationships as you do into your work? Do you forgive out of true repentance or to help yourself?

"And now these remain. Faith, hope, and love.  But the greatest of these is love." — 1 Corinthians 13:13  [NIV]

How well do you really know your spouse, child, or extended family members?  Do you keep in touch with distant loved ones as often as you should?  Do you know where your child surfs on the Internet?  Do you use a v-chip if your TV has one? Have you asked your cable provider to completely blank out "adult" channels?

"Some people are walking minus signs, but Christians should be loving plus signs." — [Times of Discovery, Radio Bible Class, Mar., '92]

Would you treat pastors differently if they were your children?  Would you give them more "benefit of the doubt"?  Would you lend them more encouragement?  Would you be less critical of their sermons, visitation, or personal style?

In order to love one another as Jesus would have us do, we must first love God.

"Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." — Deuteronomy 6:4  [NIV]
