Disciple Programs

"If you make my word your home you will indeed be my disciples."
--John 8:31 [The Jerusalem Bible]
The Disciple Bible study program is sponsored by the United Methodist
denomination, but is open to all interested persons. Participants
commit to nine-months of intensive study and discussion.
"Disciple is not about the church; it is not even about the individuals who participate. It is about the activity of God in creation."
-- Neil Alexander, president, United Methodist Publishing House
The aim is for groups of twelve to study Bible sections, then meet weekly to discuss them and to view a videotape of information pertaining to that week's studies. Weekly sessions are scheduled to be two-and-a-half hours in length. A trained leader keeps the groups focused and leads discussions.
Avondale Pattillo UMC has in the past offered Disciple I, "Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study", and Disciple II, "Into the Word; Into the World". Disciple I is a survey of the Bible. Disciple II is an in depth study of Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts.
We have also held the "Christian Believers" study program.

Even if you are not participating in a Disciple class now, the World Wide Web has many excellent resources to help you learn more about God's Word and God's people. See our Bible Study Resources and Resources for Christians pages.
